Antique Handmade Sampler - Cross Stitch: Two Old Friends with a cup of tea. One of them you one of them me. Beautifully executed cross stitch on linen of figures in silhouette with border in pink and blue. Framed with thin black frame and under glass; measuring 16.5” x 12”. Back of frame indicates that it was professionally framed in Woodstock, IL and a price of $100.00. And a very faint, handwritten poem: It’s nice when I am all alone With just my thoughts and me To think of all the fun we’ve known In days that used to be; It’s nice to know you are my friend Who always has been true, As one whose friendship ne’er will end That’s how I think of you. M.A. Jones Dated November 15, 1929 When I purchased this sampler, a piece of notebook paper was taped to the back with the poem rewritten on it as the poem is very faint and difficult to read. I am assuming the creator of the sampler wrote this poem on the back of the sampler in 1929. Perhaps she gave it to someone as a gift or merely created a lovely memory for herself. (065)
