Antique, early 1900’s, original charcoal drawing still-life of Onions in Basket. Art is framed with wire and ready to hang. The basket is set on a diagnal and off-set to the left edge of the art ground. The basket is full of onions- some of which have started to sprout. The foreground in front of the basket has a young onion and a fully mature one, filling this space and giving it interest. There is an onion that seemingly rolled away all the way to the right - and these free-roaming onion create a stream he’d out visual triangle that keeps the eyes moving along the lines- showing classical art training in progress. The shadowing is pro level as well. Signed “M. Rudisell”. There is an artist from this time period named Margaret Rudisill (with an i) that signed her M very similarly to this one and she did do still life. Drawing is pending professional appraisal and I will update listing once thats in.
Size: (Framed size) 25.5” x 18.5” x 1.25”
Condition: Art paper shows toning throughout. There are some loose paper edges that had broken off and are laying on bottom margin of frame. There are a couple of small holes in paper along the edges (see photos). There is foxing -especially in top right area. The drawing itself still shows well and crisp. The frame creaks a bit when handled but still sound- the backing is made of a thin wood board that has cracked and some one reinforced with duct tape! I’ll leave framing tweaks to the buyer’s discretion as I do not want to handle piece
