This is from my personal collection that I bought over 30 years ago from an antique show in Cleveland, Ohio (no markings)
This piece will make a wonderful addition to your collection as we don’t see too many pieces like this anymore. This gorgeous photo dates back to 1800's Civil War era and is quite beautiful and makes for a great addition to your display.
These are original tintypes, also known as melainotype or ferrotype which is a photo made by creating a direct positive on a thin sheet of metal, tin.
As we know with any antique/vintage item it is not in perfect condition. Considering this over 150 years old, it is in fair shape. I tried to take some good closeups and there are some imperfections per photos (hook intact but needs ring hinges / binding tape), however, I loved it and bought it regardless "as is " knowing that I probably would not run into another one for a long time. It was on my "to do list" but I never got around to fixing the binding or purchasing frames to put the loose tin photos in. I will leave that up to you. See photo (photos are reflective so apologies for the poor quality photo shoot). This antique may have deterioration in wood, binding, fabric/thread, photo quality, color; metal patina, hinges, glue, etc. Looks like someone inserted picture where old velvet belonged. Needs adhesive. No Returns. As is!
This sat behind glass for many years so I hope you enjoy this piece in your collection as much as I have over the past few years.
