Rare, original Oscar Schlegelmilch porcelain plate with a St. Kilian back stamp indicating a production period between 1904-1914. This plate was designed to be a decorative wall hanging plate, and sports a small back area for a wire hang.
Plate is in fantastic condition given its extreme age and delicate hand painted details. The edges are beautifully gilted, causing the rim to shine in sunlight. Small areas of age related wear, including a crazing line towards the center of the plate, visible in the cover photo. This is typical given the plate's age and materials. Minor wear on the gilted rim - again, exceedingly common with porcelain of this vintage. All in all, this piece is in beautiful condition and is a true testament to the craftsmanship of the Schlegelmilch family's artisans.
Oscar Schlegelmilch, son of famous porcelain manufacturer Leonhard Schlegelmilch and born in Suhl, Germany alongside the RS Prussia porcelain family (no relation, but fierce competitors) operated his porcelain factory out of Thuringia, Germany. His business operated between 1891 to 1952, when it was eventually absorbed by the East German government. His works are celebrated the world over. Surviving pieces have grown exceedingly rare.
