Royal Bayreuth, the oldest porcelain and china manufactory, having withstood the Franco-Prussian war and both World Wars, making older pieces especially valuable and sought after. The company, founded in 1794, was located in Tettau, which is near what was the East German border. The majority of their early work was figural, done between 1900 and 1920. Shortly after WWll, the company turned to making dinnerware. They closed their doors in May of 2018. This rare two handled pitcher of fine china is probably from the late 40s to early 50s. Given its age, it is in excellent condition. There are no cracks, chips, or crazing. The only tell-tale sign of use or wear is a tiny bit of fading in the black paint on the rim, shown in the photos, but difficult to see. I love the detail in this piece, especially the village depicted at the top. And, of course, the vivid blue sky and clouds. A piece of historic Bavaria!
