Antique, early 1900's, Antique Salt Cellar. Belleek American Made. Round gold gilded scallop edge with glossy white porcelain interior and hand painted light green exterior. This dish sits flat, with no base or footing.
You will notice the gold gilded scallop edge has some spots where the gold has worn away exposing white porcelain below. It is otherwise in excellent condition. The underside is stamped with the logo for Belleek, an American company.
Originally used to hold salt on a dining table, called a salt cellar, these fell out of use with the introduction of salt shakers in the early 1900's. This dainty little dish could certainly still be used for its original purpose for salt or other table spices, but it is also fun to use vintage items for new purposes. You could use this as a ring dish, for small earrings, charms, or other tiny trinkets. It is also a beautiful piece to simply display. Charming cottagecore vibes in less than two inches. Approximately 1.25 inches in diameter and .25 inches in interior depth.
