Antique 1910’s gold-filled pocket watch by South Bend. This watch is over 100 years old and yet winds up and ticks like a champ. Amazing craftsmanship and was cared for by generations of people who believed in maintenance and care. This fact never ceases to amaze me, especially since this is a mechanical item with hundreds of moving parts! This watch was worn and has a gentle patina where the gold has become burnished. Edges show some gold rubbing but the brass underneath is warm and it all blends in and highlights the antique nature of this item and its previous lives. The face is a white ceramic with crisp black lettering in an elegant and timeless font. Watch has a separate chronograph second hand. Marked “South Bend”.
The crown mechanism is generous in size and easy to wind (do not overtighten). The bow is sturdily attached and watch can be hung on a pocket watch chain (not included). The back plate has an embossed stripe and diamond pattern with a central initialed portion ( AM or RM initials [I believe those are the initials as the lettering is very scroll-y]). The back plate is removed by unwinding / unscrewing. Inside back plate inscribed “Wadsworth Referee 20 year 6409309”
The Top plate is silver tone metal. Mechanisms looks very clean from a basic visual assessment. Serial number: 219 919422, Double Roller, South Bend Watch Co USA, 19 jewel, adjusted temp 4 positions.
Size: 2” diameter.
Condition: Very Good antique condition with some light signs of wear.
