Sold by Joseph Hermann Jewelers of Calumet, Michigan as the gift box label shows, 12 teaspoons clearly marked sterling, appraised to have been crafted between 1885-1900 and professionally valued at $300 (not including of smelt weight), featuring exquisite workmanship and impeccable historical context. Green gift box stained and showed its age, interior silk shows wear, latch works. Originating in the copper mining boom in Michigan's Keweenaw Peninsula, the set is a reflection of the impact of the red metal, which predates the gold rush and lured a retinue of mining and lumber barons from the east coast. Herman Jewelers remained a Keweenaw mainstay through the century and can still be found online, although the physical store closed sometime around the early 2000s. Hoping this piece finds an appreciative home!
