Antique sterling silver 4 piece tea set by Tiffany Young & Ellis, designed by John C. Moore, circa 1841-53.
Tiffany Young & Ellis was started by Charles Lewis Tiffany, John B Young and J. Lewis Ellis, and was known for selling the finest goods from 1841 til 1853 when the company became Tiffany & Co. The 4 pieces of this ornate set include a tea pot, a creamer, a lidded sugar bowl and a waste bowl. The teapot, creamer and sugar bowl feature an ovoid body with floral etched scroll bracket handles. The teapot also features an etched floral spout. The waste bowl is round without handles, all 4 pieces feature the same repousse and chased floral and leaf design with beaded rims. The creamer has 1 monogrammed cartouche under the spout, the 3 other pieces have a monogrammed cartouche on one side and a blank cartouche on the other side. The teapot and the sugar bowl lids are domed and topped with swan finials atop a beautifully etched flower and leaf design. The creamer's base has been filled, presumably to reduce the risk of spillage.
