My mom called this a reticule, but I now see it's a miser's purse. She's says that her great Aunt Ada carried it.
This handsome handmade pouch is a work of art- classically shaped- rectangular on one end, bulbous on the other. The cotton crochet work is without a flaw, and the beadwork is sparkly, delicate, and heavy (steel)!
This miser's purse measures approx. 14" long, from tassel to tassel. The fabric is approx. 12.5" long and the tassels add another 1.5". The twin rings are steel and hammered.
The wide end is approx 2.25" wide with tiny silver beads incorporated into the stiches. The end is finished with 12 steel ball chains. The bulbous end is approx 2" wide, with beads repeating in triangles. The end is finished with a single tassel made up of 6 steel ball chains from a larger ball.
This purse is in excellent condition, with 2 missing balls. Clean, almost unused, no tears or holes.
