Antique Wolf Stirrup Cup

A lovely vintage Wolf stirrup cup. Made of pewter, this stirrup features a Wolf head upper and "cup" bottom and rests perfectly on its heads/ears when turned upside down.Extremely heavy in weight, this stirrup cup is solid. Mid Century A quick summary on this type of cup and where the name originated: Stirrup cups were given to guests when they were leaving and had their feet in the leather stirrups (of the horse). It was also traditional to serve wine/port/sherry at the meet, prior to the fox hunt, so the stirrup cup was taken by a rider while in the stirrups before departing. Believed to be pewter.
