This is an antique oil painting that used to belong to my mom. it is signed but I cannot make out the name and for there life of me I can't remember what my mother told me. I do remember though that she said it was valuable. (if anyone knows whose signature it is on this painting, I would appreciate that info very much).
Anyways, the truth is that I don't know more about paintings than the average person. I can tell that this painting is obviously very old. Its painted with oil on a piece of wood. The frame is also wood but in not very good condition. It was put together with small nails. What's unusual is the way the painting was attached to the frame. Looks like they used that stinky glue that's made of bones. I think it's called animal glue. The frame has some chips and a couple of pieces broken off. Someone painted over them. The painting is very dark but still in good condition. It depicts 2 peasant women taking a shortcut in a field by climbing over a large boulder. (At least that's what it looks like to me). An interesting subject in any case. The signature is in the bottom right corner. The first letter looks like a C This could be the initial of the first name or the first letter of the last name. A tough one. Please look at the photos for further description. I've put a ruler next to it for measurements. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask.
