DESCRIPTION Your scones, judging from the pictures are made in the first half of the 20th century. The design is inspired by a 18th century model that was common in Europe and usually made of brass or bronze. Wall scones are very decorative and create a fine atmosphere, so if you have plans to sell them I believe you will have no problem. DATE c. 20th century. NOTES Wall sconce is a very old form of lighting, the early ones were used with different kind of oils and later with candles and gas. They could provided a general lighting in rooms, corridors, hallways and on outside walls. The light of the candle flame was often intensified by a reflecting backplate, but it also made it a bit more safe. Later came wall scones with cut glass to spread the light.
