meamatsu Description says new battery but I thought this was a wind up clock? I’m really I interested but want to make sure it’s what I’m expecting.

tikigoddess @meamatsu it’s not a wind up. It’s battery operated. The dial is to adjust the time:-)

tikigoddess @meamatsu I mean I’m sure some old school watch manufacturers still make wind up, but that style mostly disappeared long ago. This is from the 70’s and i am 100% certain it is battery operated.

meamatsu @tikigoddess thanks! I’ll need some time to think bc I’m getting conflicting info. I almost bought one at a shop today and they showed me it was windup. My friend bought it instead so I’ll see how hers is working out.

tikigoddess @meamatsu I honestly never heard of Gucci making a wind up version. I mean they clearly outsource the watches to Swiss manufacturers but even the Swiss stopped using wind up long ago as it’s inconvenient and expensive to fix. And I’m fairly certain Gucci made no watches back in the 1940’s. So I’d definitely do some research on the authenticity of that. But no problem, take your time.

tikigoddess @meamatsu I’ll check into it as well bec that has aroused my curiosity. I’ll let you know if I find anything to corroborate what she was sold. It was a necklace watch like this, correct?

meamatsu @tikigoddess it was identical! I almost bought it but wanted to research the style (price/history/etc). The shopowner said she took it to her watch guy to get a new battery and he said “it’s a windup”. They showed me how to wind it but I didn’t pay attention to the dial moving with time.

meamatsu Lucky for them I was with a friend who could get the deal closed anyway 😂

tikigoddess
tikigoddess @meamatsu well I mean this one clearly says quartz movement and when I had the battery replaced it clearly was all original mechanism inside and as per wind up, I mean unless the dial pulls out I would assume it would have a separate dial for winding as I have several vintage watches my grandfather made gave me. But yes, please let me know how it works out. I’ll do some research as well. Don’t want to say anything until I’m sure.

tikigoddess @meamatsu very true. I’m definitely not an expert on watches, but I know this version was always battery operated. I’ll def do some research.

tikigoddess @meamatsu big reason I never deal with Patek & Rolex is bec the counterfeits are so good that even experts can’t tell. Like a vintage Gucci watch is a lot simpler but yeah when people ask me if I can get them expensive watches i can but I won’t. Bec I’m not an expert and wouldn’t sell anything I wasn’t 100% sure of.

tikigoddess
tikigoddess @meamatsu but I don’t know of any Swiss manufacturers that still made wind up versions in the 70’s. So I’m def curious about this.

meamatsu
meamatsu @tikigoddess the dial pulls out! She showed me how to adjust the time. When the dial is pushed in you can wind it and hear the clicking. Check it out and let me know.

tikigoddess @meamatsu that’s very interesting. Like I said, with Gucci you never really know. It could be an earlier version. They have been known to recreate pieces over the years. Still doing that actually. I will def do some research but what matters most is that your friend is happy. If you opened up this watch you’d clearly see it was always battery operated. I never say never, Gucci has made some very random items over the years:-)

tikigoddess @meamatsu the fool is me. I just checked the watch again and realized I was charged for a battery when there never was a battery. It is a windup like your friend said. I pulled the dial out and realized she was correct. I will amend the listing now. Not surprised since I wasn’t there when they supposedly changed the battery. I owe you a big thank you. Even I make mistakes sometimes 😉

tikigoddess @meamatsu looking at it closely now I can see there isn’t even a screw to open it. Got conned. But that’s life. At least I don’t have to worry about changing the battery ever again lol. But yes if you decide to purchase I definitely owe you a discount. Thank you very much for taking the time to discuss.
