Poshmark is an amazing site for buying new and gently used clothing, shoes, accessories, etc. but it is not without its fair share of scammers and f@ke items. In this post, I’ll explain some of the easiest ways to tell if an item is f@ke. For instance, luxury items that are tagged as brand new, but are listed for less than $500, especially as a DIFFERENT brand than what they claim to be, are f@ke. Anything $500 and over gets sent to Poshmark for authentication. If they are not willing to price it accordingly in order for that to happen, it’s not real. These sellers often use very stilted and almost robotic language, take a look at some of the descriptions I have posted above. They often claim that items are authentic without showing a date code, tag, etc. Look at the age of the account! If an account is brand new and has only one listing, usually in a luxury or high-end item, and it meets the criteria I’ve mentioned, there’s a very good chance it’s f@ke. Oftentimes these accounts have a username that will be one thing, say, very feminine for example, but then the display name is completely different. They may also have “gibberish” display/usernames as well. They often have multiple sizes of one item listed as well, Canada Goose and Patagonia are major offenders. And they will use the same photos over multiple accounts. As always, tag me in a listing if you aren’t sure! Poshmark is letting these scammers run rampant, and it hurts us authentic sellers.

kattax It is unfortunately up to us as sellers to police the site and profiles/scam listings, in order to report them and warn potential buyers before they get scammed by these people. Poshmark has been letting these scammers run rampant, and can’t seem to shut these people down or potentially block the IP addresses they are coming from. This hurts us legit sellers who have been on here for years, because people have a bad experience with a scammer and then never use the site again.

kattax
kattax This leaves them with a bad taste in their mouth, and us with even less potential buyers. We are being punished for Poshmark’s failure to control these false accounts, and it needs to stop! I hope that as buyers and sellers, we can use this post to educate new users in order to protect them, and even seasoned ones who might get hoodwinked.

ever9 HI!! Thank you for this! I am a Posh Ambassador now/have been a legit seller for several years now and I even just got scammed because I don't buy often on here and thankfully since I pointed out some very obvious things to Poshmark they didn't charge me and cancelled the sale!!! Could I copy this somehow and put on on my page? :-) Just let me know!! It is DEF up to us unfortunately!

ever9 Oh, and they often have a weird pic they got off the internet and use stock photos or other photos of the same item, like a handbag, from another legit seller with the same bag. Even use that sellers words! So make sure you ask the seller to post pics of the actual item and even better, to put a card in the pic with their username on it in the pic! Some sellers have started doing it. I may with my bag pics soon too! IF THE PRICE SEEMS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE-IT IS!!!! :-)

kattax @ever9 yes, you absolutely can use this post for your page! I’m so sorry that you recently dealt with that type of fraud, it’s ridiculous how inundated this platform has become with replicas. And thank you for the stock photo reminder as well! Lately they’ve been seeing they’re completely ripping off sellers photos and descriptions. It’s so wild.

Sep 03Reply
kattax
kattax @jeffchrissie it looks like all of their listings have been removed by Poshmark, so it most likely was a replica. If you reach out to Poshmark sipport they’ll most likely cancel the order and refund you.

mrskrpeebles
mrskrpeebles Hi, if help is still available. I purchased a Louis Vuitton handbag @hold_erwendy advertised as authentic Oct. 25, 2022, the next day that purchase item & all their other listing disappeared. I immediately messaged Poshmark about this & fearing I was sold a fake. Oct 28 Poshmark emailed saying not to worry the seller was having account issues but that had no impact on them going ahead and shipping. They shipped on Oct 29. Today I open a clearly fake China made bag. I've opened a case & waiting.
Oct 31Reply
mrskrpeebles
mrskrpeebles And might I add they must still be having account issues because there are no items listed since I purchased from them. What's so bad when you click on the item in my purchased you can't even go back to see what I was sold and exactly what their advertising stated.
Oct 31Reply
kattax
kattax @mrskrpeebles it sounds like Poshmark has already flagged their account and removed listings for being replicas. More than likely they will respond to your case and refund you pretty quickly since they’ve already suspended the seller account/listings, provided you went into the actual order itself through Poshmark and opened a case that way! So long as the case is open you are good.
Oct 31Reply
mrskrpeebles
mrskrpeebles @kattax Thanks for responding. I definitely opened the case thru the sale making sure not to accidentally hit the accept button. I will not feel better until Poshmark sends me a return label because it is Poshmark who told me after review it appear the seller was having issues with the account back when I reported to them that & all listings had disappeared. It had already been 4 days that they still hadn't shipped. I guess they had to get their nerve up or fake supply in.
Oct 31Reply
kattax
kattax @mrskrpeebles Poshmark might even have you just keep the item too and refund your funds that way the seller doesn’t get their fake product back. The fact the case is still open is more than okay, that means it’s still being officially monitored by Poshmark but you should have nothing to worry about!

lz007 So many victims here - buyers, legit sellers, child labor - but sleuthing the scams is a fascinating trail. Note to buyers: if you're interested in buying something, or are buying something that you have doubts about - immediately screen shot the listing in case it "disappears".

belinda35749
belinda35749 I am reaching out to you because I am just now reading your "Is This Authentic." Yesterday I purchased a Louis Vuitton, Pochette Metis Reverse Monogram Canvas Cross Body Bag for $278.00 plus tax and shipping from Poshmark seller Martha E @ marthaadz8879. I had reservations mainly due to the cost but as I said I made the purchase. Could you please help me with identifying if this is scam. I have questioned this since I made the purchase. I am new to buying items online. Thank you.
Apr 10Reply
kattax
kattax @belinda35749 based on the fact that they are a very new seller, were selling a luxury item for under the automatic authentication price, and now Poshmark looks to have pulled all their listings for review, I would say most likely they were selling fake bags. Without seeing the listings I can’t be 100% sure, but if they were removed after your purchase then they most likely are not real.
Apr 10Reply
kattax
kattax @belinda35749 okay, I googled their username and was able to at least see some of the removed listing preview photos and text for the descriptions, they are absolutely selling fake bags. If you do actually receive a bag from them, don’t be afraid to open a case with Poshmark and state the item is not authentic. Do not accept your order or allow 3 full days from the time of delivery to pass or the system will auto-accept it.
Apr 10Reply
belinda35749
belinda35749 Thank you so much for your quick response. I received an email this evening from Poshmark Orders after asking for your help which states that my order was cancelled for the following reason "Item not authentic" and that the total amount that I paid will be credited back to my Visa Card. I must thank someone at Poshmark Orders for being aware of this seller and taking action. So "thankful" for your "is this Authentic?", your response to my plea for help and the Poshmark Community Team.

kattax @belinda35749 I’m so glad to hear it’s been taken care of! It sounds like their account was already reported before and your purchase must have flagged them for further review. ❤️

lz007
lz007 This would be funny if it didn't have such serious and even dangerous consequences. I actually enjoy getting the "Please review these listings" emails from Poshmark, when you get a chance to even the score a little. It's shocking how blatantly sleazy some of these fake listings are, but they're like telemarketers - if they even get a tiny percentage of buyers hooked, they turn a profit. Caveat emptor! (Buyer beware!)
Nov 26Reply
kattax
kattax @lz007 agreed! I always review my reported listings, which you can do every day, whether or not Posh has sent you a new notification. It’s sad how many people are so close to falling for the scammers, but if they don’t know any better about online scams/fakes it’s so easy to have that happen. My favorite is when the sellers get mad for calling them out and block me. 🤣
