I would love to chat here if you or a loved one has autism. My daughter is 11 and has Aspergers or high functioning Autism that it's called now. She is incredibly talented at art all of the pictures here in my closet are Kiki's. She also built her own computer at age 10 and wants to be a voice over actress.

lolabeatfaces You're very welcome. 😘😊 you're daughter seems amazing. I'm new as well but so far it has been a great experience. Thank you for taking the time to share some items from my closet. I will do the same to show my gratitude for your strength and encouragement. (I was curious, so I googled "raising an autistic child") thank you for being a great mother, from what I read it's not easy. But you must be proud in knowing Kiki is doing great !

hulselis Hi Lola I love your name btw. Thank you !!yes we do have our struggles I'm sure as most families although we have to follow more rules and patterns because change doesnt go over well. We got lucky though bc my husband had a bone marrow transplant in 2004 and after he survived it he decided he wanted to work with autistic children. He became an autism behavior specialist for years before Kiki was diagnosed. Luckily his training paid off because that little body of hers had huge behaviors and Jason my hubby was able to help us through them. She has what's called Aspergers it is high functioning autism it allows her to be genius at some things like computers and art and history however, she can't tie her shoes or do math. She also has alot of sensory needs like bouncing on a yoga ball a thousand times, needing her arms and feet rubbed, or running in circles. She also can't stand loud noises and textures of food bother her so she only eats the same 4 or 5 items all the time. She keeps up laughing though. She's very witty and funny but has an explosive temper. We tried for three years to get pregnant but my husband had cancer and the meds prevented it. We moved from Arizona to Maryland just to be close to Johns Hopkins where my husband had the first transplant in the world on his cancer. They also took him off some meds and we were blessed with Kiki. Thank you for looking into autistic motherhood that was really kind and incredibly thoughtful. You are a wonderful person and I hope we can keep in touch!! Thank you again!!

lolabeatfaces I can only imagine the courage of your entire family. God has a way of setting certain people up with certain circumstances because he knows they have the strength and ability to deal with it. It's amazing how you and your husband had experience with autism prior to her diagnosis. I'm sure that made it just a little less challenging. I'm so glad your family was blessed with such a wonderful daughter and I am happy to have met you as well Lisa. Kiki is an inspiration, maybe one day you guys can share all er accomplishments with the world. And as far as your husband, how is he doing ? Is he completely cured of the cancer ?

hulselis @lolabeatfaces thank you Lola you write so beautifully. Jason has been cancer free now for 10 years. He does have alot of damage to his liver, kidney, and pancreas but, hes doing great. At the time of his transplant his survival chance was 5% but he was dying and Kiki was only 17 months old. He wanted to try the transplant to help others and the research. Well it worked it was grueling and torture for him but he stayed strong and it was a success. He had cancer for 8 years and was diagnosed 6 months before we met at 20 years old. I knew he was sick but at the time no one knew it would be terminal. We fell in love instantly and he proposed 3 months after we started dating. His cancer wasn't the main focus in our life we just wanted to be together. Even though we were young he was always a gentleman and now has treated me like a princess for 16 years. I know I'm lucky in fact I've written half of a book called "The Luckiest Unlucky" even though we have major health issues between the three of us we find a way to make it work. Work takes alot out of him because his internal body has so much damage so we're not as busy as most families -we have to rest alot. I got diagnosed with two rare autoimmune diseases a year after his transplant that have disabled me from work now for 7 years and Kiki was just diagnosed with an autoimmune diseases called fibromyalia -so days are tough for her too. I normally don't tell people all this stuff you are so kind and easy to talk too I've poured my life on you sorry about that;) i dont know anything about you I've taken up all the conversation. Are you married or have children or a career you enjoy? I would love to know more about you. Please write me when you can. I hope your enjoying your Sunday,we were going to go to the movies but, Jason needs to rest before work tomorrow. Talk soon!!

acissocoollike Hi, thanks for the follow! :) I don't have a child w autism but my 9 year old sister Zoe does. Zoe was completely "normal" until she was 18 months old and then she mysteriously started regressing. She was diagnosed with Autism spectrum disorder when she was 3. Zoe seems to be a lot like Kiki with repetitive behaviors, hating loud noises, and only eating the same few foods. (Chicken nuggets, plain pasta, pizza, and poptarts) She looooves to draw all the time and can literally say every line in a movie she's only seen once even if it was years ago. She's the same with remembering songs and loves to sing for us all the time. She continues to amaze us everyday with her growth and we love her to pieces. It's amazing how talented Kiki is and comforting to know that someone out there knows the struggles of having a child as special as my Zoe. Thank you so much for sharing to us how awesome Kiki is!

hulselis @camrynsisk Hi I'm Lisa thank you for your compliment. Your closet is beautiful btw is that you in the prom dresses if so you look amazing? I hope Kiki gets the chance to go to prom I think it's a very big mile stone in life. Are you in college now? I'm very interested in knowing how well Aspergers do as an adult. My nephew is 17 with Aspergers and he's having a rough time. He will need to stay with his parents or go to a group home. I'm hoping Kiki can do whatever makes her happy and isn't limited due to autism. Thank you for posting. Take care!!

lolabeatfaces Hi again Lisa 💋I'm so sorry for the delayed response I got lost in life and neglected posh for a very short while. I love talking to you those it seems like the people who go through do much in life are the most grateful. I love your positivity and happy spirit. You and your family truly are inspirational and I would love to read your book one day ! Sounds like a great book ! How is kiki doing ? And how was the movie ? Omg 5% survival rate you must have been so terrified ! So happy for the wonderful turn out. I can only hope to find a Similar love to that you and your husband share.... My name is Lola and I'm a 23 year old single mother of a very soon to be 6 year old. She gives me life ! I am also a Makeup artist but recently decided to begin a part time journey of cna. I'm loving it so far. I truly love the idea of working in geriatrics but I also love cosmetics. So it's quite a difference but I enjoy it. I'm from California but just recently moved to Oklahoma. :( again I look forward to hearing from you. You give a whole another meaning to enjoying life and I love your conversation.

hulselis @lolabeatfaces Hey girl its great to hear from you. I can tell you are a makeup artist you are beautiful. I'm glad you had a little posh break I find myself becoming obsessed. I loved Kiki at age 6 your daughter is very lucky to have you. Good for you exploring new career opportunities it sounds like you would be great at anything you do. No worries you will find the right man you still have plenty of time. I met Jason at 20 but I had two really bad relationships prior so I knew as soon as I met Jason he was different and wouldn't break my heart. You know I was thinking you could combine both careers. Jason worked with autistic children and taught them Taekwondo he's a third degree black belt. So I was thinking woman in geriatrics deserve to feel beautiful too so while your taking care of them you could do their makeup, nothing would make them feel better. Just a thought;) What brought you to Oklahoma? Do you like it? Kiki had her first day of school today and she made a friend named LiLi so she was excited. Have a great night. I hope we talk soon!!

lolabeatfaces Thank you lovely. Yes it's been a challenge being such a young mother but I love her she gives me a sense of purpose. She will be six this Friday. August 8th...Yes that's a good idea combine the two that would be exciting.... Aww what grade is Kiki in ? I bet she is happy to have net a new friend ! I am happy for her. To be completely honest Lisa, I fell on hard times in California and couldn't afford the rent. My father offered me a chance to love here with him in Oklahoma and save money. So I took it.... Yes I know there is a man out there somewhere that will be able to deal with my crazy mood swings. I think I'm no polar honestly.

hulselis
hulselis @diamondstar123Hi April its nice to virtually meet you. If you don't mind me asking when was the last time your son was assessed? The reason I'm asking is if your son has Aspergers or high functioning autism they call it now it doesn't fully present in boys until there age 7 to 12 on average. So if you go to the school they may help get the testing he needs to confirm but they usually want a psychiatrist so if you can get in that would be best. He may have developed more autistic qualities that could diagnose him which would get him services both in school and from the state. Sometimes higher functioning Aspergers can present as more emotional disorders such as bi-polar and doctors may completely miss it. As far as sensory needs they can become more necessary to control emotions. Brushing his arms and legs is great if he likes it kiki hates it but every child is different. If school is willing to let him have a "chill" area where he can go to put headphones on and listen to music, use a yoga ball, or even in his back pack you can put different textures of Velcro that he can rub if he gets overwhelmed for sensory. if he likes brushing then he will like Velcro you can even stick it o the inside of his notebook so he can use it without others knowing. Swings, water ,sounds, smells, cold , hot all in their own way affect autism and can be great sensory. Kiki goes to the bathroom and listens to the echoes at school. she also runs her hands under the water both hot and cold at school to cope. She also wears gloves so she doesn't pick her face when she's anxious at school. It definitely sounds like he has aspergers just was too young to be properly diagnosed. The best thing you can do for him is to help him recognize when he needs his sensory. Sensory and behavior modification are really the only way to help manage autism but if he can know when he needs it will control his moods and behaviors. I could talk forever about this I've learned so much from my husband and daughter and would love to help anyway I can if I don't know the answer maybe my hubby will.

diamondstar123 @hulselis ..wow now that u say that..he does like to take his headphones to school. .he says he puts them on in the hallways to listen to the music...he got in trouble and I took them away from him he was really upset...I know jr overwhelms him...I am goin to tall to the counselor at school. ..im gona see if I can make a mass email to all his teachers...I didn't do that last year cuz for sum reason in my mind I wana feel like he has out grown it...but as I talked to sum teachers where they were concerned abt him...I told them abt his issues and they were more understanding and helped me with him...would I tell his Dr..that I want to reevaluate him...is that where I start with this?...he has delt with this very well since he was small....his anxiety is overwhelming also...loves ice , loves to chew on things...lol.. mints..hot showers. .hot food...lemon..it was hard telling people abt him..they look at me weird when I say he has a sensory issue...I dont know if im saying that right where they would understand me....I had a book I need to look for it describes him to a T..he has always had trouble sleeping he says his mind keeps going. ..I started giving him melatonin. ..

hulselis @diamondstar123 Hi im sorry I was sick today. Yes I would either go back to the same doctor or get a second opinion. It is possible he could have a sensory disorder too. If he is that sensory dependent then the best thing you can do is to make sure he always has access to his sensory items bc it will make his less agitated and more focused. Contacting all of the teachers will let them know that he needs help. Also you could talk to the school about getting an IEP or 504 plan written that would allow for extra sensory items in class or extra help in class like an teachers aide. I hope that helps a bit. I would be happy to help in anyway I can but it sounds like you've got it covered and your a great mom to care so much. Thanks talk soon!!!

hulselis @lolabeatfaces Hey girl I'm sorry it took me a while to get back I wrote you yesterday but I realized I never used an @sign bc I couldn't find it. Happy Bday to your little girl tomorrow do you have any big plans?? Kiki started 6th grade the first day was great but she's already having trouble with teachers understanding her needs, so I have to call them tomorrow its so frustrating. You know we have had a really tough year as well since we moved back to Az. We rented an apartment on line in the same area we lived before we moved to the east coast bc it had grown so much and it's sooo expensive. We have needed family help this year too it's very frustrating. I can't imagine how tough living in CA would be it's so expensive. Kiki wants to be a voice actress and we looked into moving there but we just can't afford it. We have lived with family when Jason was sick and it's not easy either but, at least you know there is food on the table. I don't know if you really think you are bi polar but Jason was diagnosed with it 2 years ago. They say that the radiation from his cancer caused it. Without medicine however, he couldn't hold a job so getting the right meds is so necessary. Being the love one living with him it definitely isn't easy sometimes especially his depression. I tend not to handle his suicidal thoughts well but his manic states are hilarious. He cusses like crazy and makes everyone laugh. He's a natural comedian anyway but when he's manic he's like a potty mouth comedian it's so fun. Unfortunately though his mouth gets him into trouble as much as we all pee ourselves in laughter the meds make them happen less often. He needs them though to function at work bc he has caught himself a few time just cussing in a drawer just bc it feels good and he can't let it go where he may tell off his boss. The good thing is the meds may take away as many manic states but they also help his depression. You know here in AZ they just opened up a Ketamine infusion clinic that is supposed to stop bi polar depression in the first hour of the IV. Luckily his Lithium is helping him enough right now but I thought it was interesting. Well I'm going to bed I had a rough sick disease day today and feel like that's all I did was sleep but I'm still exhausted. Have fun tomorrow and if you get a chance let me know how it went. Gnite!!

hulselis @electrasshoes Hi thank you for writing. I don't get to meet many people as adults with Aspergers if you dont mind me asking how is she doing?? Is she on her own and able to work? Kiki is still too young for us to know if she will be able to take care of herself in the future, get married etc but, we will support her no matter what she is our world. Yes kikis focus is computers and so many great people in history had Aspergers bc of there intent focus on one or two things, they will be expert in them in no time. I would love to learn more about how school was for your sister and any advice you have I would be very greatful. Thank you I'm Lisa btw!!

hulselis @lakeforest Hi how r u. I can't remember if I wrote you back the other day but I can't find it so sor r y it took me so long. We have been good we did find an apartment only about 4 miles from here. My hubby wanted to be closet to work but we just couldn't find one in that area. We move Nov 5th so I'm starting to pack now since it takes a while for me bc I don't have many healthy days. My daughter has finally found a friend at school that is making her days go better. It's her first crush which is really cute! I don't know if you are familiar with the practice of feng shui but I've been taking classes to become a practitioner which I'm really excited about. The weather is finally cooling down fall is my favorite time of year so I'm excited. I have a ton of items to list I just haven't been on posh much lately. I did buy my first item today I got a big buddha purse is mint condition for $20 so I was happy. I made my first big sale my hubbies watch but she got it at a really low price I was kinda bummed it went so cheap but a sale is a sale I guess. I still have only sold 6 items but I haven't been working on posh lately so that's my fault. I have an account on vinted but haven't worked on that either I did have a really rude lady on vinted who wanted a pair of pants for $5 with no shipping when I told her no she was like the price isn't worth it. She was rude from the begining I should've just not paid attention to her rantings but it does make you mad though!! Anyway I hope you are well let's talk soon k!!

lakeforest Hi Lisa! Glad to hear from u! No worries about getting back to me right away :) I know you're moving soon & that is so time consuming packing and stuff! U might want to let the ppl here know during the week u move so u won't miss any sales... Just a suggestion. Let me know if u want me to share your listings. I don't mind at all since it only takes a minute or so. I'm glad u sold a watch! I know what u mean about not getting exactly what u wanted but I've accepted the fact that everyone wants a deal now and are on budgets which is quite understandable.. I'm the queen of being on a budget, lol! It's easier to part with the cheaper stuff but what that girl did to u was too tacky huh? There is a point when someone lowballs too low and u might as well keep the darn item!!! I told a lady one day this and then I blocked her. I think ppl just do this to bug us cuz they don't have anything else to do! I'm glad to hear about your daughter and her "crush". She sounds like she's so sweet and so talented too! I love the pics above⤴️⤴️😘 Well I'm gonna get dinner going now... Keep in touch my dear ok? Take care!

hulselis @lolabeatfaces Hey girl how have you been?. Long time no talk. Have you been on posh lately? How's your daughter? Things have been getting better here we are moving in 3 weeks but, I've been a little too sick to pack lately. Our financial situation is looking better now that we will be living in a much cheaper place, but nicer then where we are now much better energy. I have been practicing my Feng shui and it seems to be helping. I'm going to become a feng shui practice hopefully I would love to do that and it's a job I would be healthy enough to do. I hope you are doing good and your daughter too!!
