awesome antique railroad hammer. they would use this to drive the wooden or iron spikes and the loop was incase they needed to pull one and redo or replace it,also the ball part was used to sink the spike down so the train didn't catch on it while passing. the handle is made w 3 folded pieces of metal sonic could easily be swapped when it was broken,believe it or not they got broke alot then and you could squeeze this one slide a new one in let go smack it a few tines and ready to work again. they def didn't waste a sec of time back then. I can only imagine driving a metal spike w this metal hammer and how good that felt. awesome find. 👌
