BOUTIQUE is used to note items that have been purchased wholesale or directly from a distributor, and are being sold to the public for the first time. This differs from NWT items that have been purchased from a retail store for resale.❗️❗️Items purchased from a store for the purpose of reselling are not considered Boutique.❗️❗️Coach, Kate Spade, Michael Kors, Brahmin, Vera Bradly, or any other retail store brand ARE NOT TO BE LISTED AS BOUTIQUE.

rosiesrecycles While this is like 99% true lol, there are some exceptions! I have purchased wholesale large pallets of overstock inventory from Barneys and Nordstrom which included purses by Michael Kors, Longchamp, etc. It's always important to ask where they purchased the inventory from before reporting :)

urbanbrilliant @rosiesrecycles I don’t understand. Barnes and Nordstrom are retail stores. So even tough you purchased before the items were put for sale, they are still not boutique. They are still retail store items.

urbanbrilliant @rosiesrecycles unless you purchase large quantities straight from Coach for example, their item will never be boutique. I don’t believe those stores use this practice.

rosiesrecycles
rosiesrecycles @urbanbrilliant It is a very common practice among big box department stores. You're right, though - I have not heard of actual brand name stores like Coach stores or Kate Spade stores liquidating their inventory. I've only purchased from and seen wholesale liquidations from department stores.

rosiesrecycles @urbanbrilliant I just wanted to clarify because I make wholesale purchases like this and got clarification from Poshmark support that it was okay to list them as Boutique items since they were new with tags, never listed on a retail floor, and were purchased in bulk/wholesale.

rosiesrecycles
rosiesrecycles @urbanbrilliant Haha I'm stuck in my Poshmark mindset - I meant to say "for sale on a retail floor" not "listed on a retail floor" haha

urbanbrilliant @rosiesrecycles Thank you thank you!!! Finally an answer! It is so hard sometimes to get straight answers from Posh. I knew my post would get someones attention. Lol. Posh only have a few sentences on explaining boutique items, that actually seems to create more confusion than help.

rosiesrecycles @urbanbrilliant yeah theyre pretty bad about responding sometimes haha. They HAD to respond to me though because someone opened a case against me for an item and I had to email Posh my proof of purchase with a wholesale manifest which was a huge pain 🙄 but your post is totally right and necessary! People definitely abuse the boutique label for items they purchased from a retail floor

samipoo24
samipoo24 @urbanbrilliant Liana you are correct, unless you buy from the distributor(wholesale) and it has a tag it is boutique, if you purchase from anyplace retail then you would list as NWT.

bagsnbistros Ugh such a pet peeve!! People labeling their nwt items as "boutique" when they just came from the clearance rack! I worked hard to be able to access actual wholesale items, so that I could truly label them as "boutique." Thanks for posting!!!

urbanbrilliant @mellysbags Exactly! Also getting a different and unfair exposure.

carolhazen @rosiesrecycles that Is my understanding from PM as well. to have been purchased wholesale and never retailed. And as a member of PM Analytics group I monitor for boutique items labeled incorrectly. versus NWT. a pet peeve of mine also, but I tend to not interfere with others and let PM and Analytics make the final decision. I have removed my unsold items bought wholesale and cleared to be boutique from the description for those that do not know. Makes life easier. smiles. Xo Carol

urbanbrilliant @carolhazen Posh tells me that those big brands will never be considered boutique. If you buy a closed batch from a retail store items in there will not be considered boutique. There are several closets that have been reported several times that continue to be able to share bags as boutique items. Once items are listed as boutique they get a different exposure from closets that are working hard to share their compliant listing.

carolhazen
carolhazen @urbanbrilliant Yes if bought from a retailer, but those with wholesale licenses with these companies may list as boutique, it is always best if reported to leave to PM, they do determine the actual individual situation. IF still listed, then probably ok by PM Admin, and Yes I think everyone needs to be compliant, but some are new and don't

carolhazen @urbanbrilliant know, or know finer points of each situation. All work hard, and PM will let them know. I. personally chose to as to explain my situation or not even be asked. smiles, Thanks @urbanbrilliant .

urbanbrilliant
urbanbrilliant @carolhazen You mean, one who has a wholesale license could go to coach store and buy from them paying wholesale value?
Jun 05Reply
urbanbrilliant
urbanbrilliant @carolhazen As you can see I am still trying to understand how a Coach bag will ever be considered boutique item. 😏 I do appreciate the conversation.
Jun 05Reply
carolhazen
carolhazen @urbanbrilliant I just saw your higher up msg, Coach does it slightly different, you apply for a Coach Reseller through the company, go to NY for an Interview, then if accepted, get to buy wholesale. They show preference to Boutiques , and Catalogs, A Rep will come and visit periodically , as well.

samipoo24
samipoo24 @urbanbrilliant okay sweetie I heard back from PM, they said the only way the would have the right to question a bout. Item is if there is or was a customer complaint. They just can not go to a closet and ask for proof of goods.
Jun 08Reply
urbanbrilliant
urbanbrilliant @samipoo24 I dont’t understand, because they told me items from those brands will always be considered NWT. Why would a customer complain with the item is authentic, right?! I am just asking them to have the items listed correctly. I am so lost with posh rules.
