You can just drop it off in any blue Post Office mail box. They have them all around town here. But if you want a receipt for shipping confirmation you'll need to take it in and have them scan it. I only do this if it is an expensive item and I don't want it sitting in the bottom of a blue box until someone comes to pick it up :P
