ABOUT THE DUNCAN AND MILLER GLASS COMPANY
In 1865, George Duncan purchased the former Ripley & Company glass factory located in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania. Duncan formed a partnership with his two sons Harry B. and James E and his son-in-law August H. Heisey. From 1874 to 1892, the company was known as Geo. Dugan & Sons.
John Earnest Miller, former head of the mold department at King, Son, and Company, joined Duncan in 1874. Miller designed many of the glass patterns produced by Duncan over the next 50 years. James Duncan, Sr., became president when George died. Duncan Glass joined the United States Glass Company around 1890. It was designated as factory “D.”
A fire destroyed the Pittsburgh plant in 1892. James Duncan, Harry Duncan, and John Earnest Miller became partners in George Duncan’s Son & Co. A new glass factory opened in Washington. PA. This was known as the Duncan and Miller period. 1893 to 1955
