Original vintage David Gil Man in Bowler Hat. 1960’s mid century modern, Bennington Potters famous “Man with the Bowler’s Hat” ceramic sculpture on the original base by David Gil, the founder of Bennington Potters in Bennington, Vermont. Impressed on the back of the head is item # (1534), DG for the potter David Gil, and Bennington Potters. Ceramic face with round mirrored glass eyes and derby hat. The head is mounted on a steel rod and set in cast stone. Made is 1960s. Original base with wear on rod as shown. Evidently it is unusual to find this sculpture on the original base. Base is 4.5” x 4.5”. Top of head to bottom of base is 20.25”. Rod is 4.35”. Top of hat to bottom of chin 13.25”. Side of brim to side of brim is 9.5”. A few of these sculptures are listed on-line on other sites for $788 - $1200. The few available sculptures with the original bases are $1200. The sculpture weighs 10.8 pounds. The listing pre -populated as”free” due to the cost exceeding $500. I am not sure this is accurate due to the weight of the sculpture. I also don’t know how long the “free” shipping” will last a it’s controlled but Poshmark.
