This vintage Biltons stoneware side plate features a detailed red-headed woodpecker and floral design. This is durable ironstone ceramic made in the famous pottery area of Staffordshire in England. The "Biltons tableware" mark on the back indicates this plate was probably manufactured in the 1970s.
Since the red-headed woodpecker is an American bird, it is likely this stoneware plate was imported as a blank into the US, where it was hand painted probably by an individual as a unique piece.
