Incredibly beautiful cake plate featuring two seagulls on a light blue and white background. Rim is embossed with fish scales, and handles portray two fish, face to face. This lovely plate was made in Denmark (discontinued in 1997), and contains green B&G company mark bottom. Measures 10 1/2" handle to handle. Excellent condition with no chips, cracks or crazing.
Seagull is a Danish porcelain dinnerware. The pattern was created in 1895 by Fanny Garde at Bing & Grondahl. Its special frame shape was created in the 1880s by August Hallin. The frame is described as one of the most Danish there is. Together with the patterns Blue Fluted and Blue Flower, the seagull pattern is the most widespread service of porcelain made in Denmark. The seagull frame helped to initiate the Art Nouveau style in Denmark.
The seagull dinnerware was manufactured in two different variants - resp. with and without gold edge. This one has the gold edge and highlights on fish handles and seagulls.
