Bishop Powell Stonier (PB&S) Antique Melissa Blue Gold Floral Covered Serving Bowl c.1878 - 1891, VERY RARE.
Oval covered serving dish in weighty and well-made porcelain. The top has a swirl pattern with a scalloped edge. Decorated with a Chinoiserie-style blue floral pattern with rich gold trim and accents throughout. Handles and knob are all metallic gold. This appears to be hand painted especially the gold trim parts. Hand-wash only and is not suitable for microwave nor oven.
Note: there are other matching serving pieces in my store.
Not much is known about this pattern but a piece can be found in a London museum. The company itself was a pioneer in design in the mid-to-late 1800s and their china was one of the brands found on the Titanic. This is indeed rare and to be treasured.
12" From handle to handle and about 6" tall from knob to base.
Condition: For a piece that is about 150 years old, this is in remarkable condition. There are no cracks, chips, crazing or other damage. There is some gold loss and normal wear to the base.
Vintage and pre-owned items may have slight imperfections or signs of light use. Anything major that compromises the value or integrity of the piece will be listed.
Serve up a piece of history with this truly beautiful antique oval covered serving bowl.
