Wish these weren't B widths...;(

@konacopia I know, these are almost like a brown/burgundy/oxblood between the color palette. I could wear them when I was younger but not anymore.
konacopia
These are Black Labels too...and size 10...I'm an 11D LOL! Such a rare item...
chrispistorio
@konacopia very impressive, you know your boots!

@chrispistorio The '80s & early '90s Urban Cowboy era was arguable the best quality boots to be offered off-the-shelf...can't get that level of quality nowadays unless you go custom or pay over $500 today. Love the Black & Gold Label series, as well as Lucchese Classics & Rios of Mercedes of the same era. These preban sea turtle boots are just amazing...! Shame you can't wear them any longer ;(

hey partner could you show me the soles on the boots and a picture of the numbers inside the shafts does it say 210 or 410
stetson417
Can you get clear picture of the Gold Label and the sizing stamp of 2100.
stetson417
@konacopia There was only ElRey and Gold Label boots before 1990 and after Justin boots bought them they came out with Black Label line.

@stetson417 not true. Black Label models have been around since the ‘60s, if not earlier. I have several pairs. Gold Label boots are just limited edition & they have the same TL patch sewn inside as Black Label boot models. The Black Label models from the‘60s has a different style TL patch sewn inside the shaft.
stetson417
@konacopia I am sorry but you are wrong… Tony Lama changed the Gold Label label 3 times over the time. Show me a box, advertisement or anything other than people calling them black label. I grew up in the 60’s and have worn Lama’s since the 70’s and bought Gold Label boots in a Gold Label boot box with a Gold Label boot coin also…
stetson417
I know in 1965 they changed to the last Gold Label label and have seen a receipt stating Gold Label boots with the original label which I guess at one time was gold color but look more white now with black writing…
stetson417
Then they changed the label to a black with gold writing then went to the last one with black with gold writing which thousands of people call black label boots. Had a so called expert tell me that is what he based his expert opinion on by all the people calling them that and no facts..

@stetson417 I’ll have to confirm that with TL Support. I always understood that not all TLs that had the Black Label patch were Gold Label models that had the box & medallion. I’ll have to see if my TL “Black Labels” models from the ‘70s are from which product line. There’s a rather long Reddit thread on TLBlack Labels, inquiring the differences. I know the Black Label models from the ‘90s literally say “Black Label”.
stetson417
@konacopia They are owned by Justin boots/Birchshire&Hathaway And what I was told years ago by them that they discarded all paper records from Tony Lama after they purchased them in 1990.
stetson417
Got my first pair of Lama’s in 1974 and the Gold Label box still had 4110 stamped on box but 11D in boots…
konacopia
@stetson417 Lucchese is similar in that Support has no access to the analog records for models produced in their San Antonio HQ when they relocated to their current El Paso location in ‘86. I was aware of Justin’s acquisition of TL, but they seem to have more info on older boot models as they have identified several of my vintage models from the ‘70s.
konacopia
@stetson417 TL used the old sizing system in the ‘70s & early ‘80s like Rios did when I got my first adult pair of boots. Not all the TL boots that had the Black Label” patch were Gold Labels though, so TL should be able to explain what line these boots are from if they’re not Gold Labels. I’ve one actual pair of Gold Label TLs tho. The other TLs have the patch sewn inside, but I know they’re not GL.
chrispistorio
@stetson417 sure can, when I get back to the house. but based on what material these are, the pre ban dates should give you the wheelhouse on the year these are if the records aren't online.
stetson417
@konacopia if they had black and gold label inside the boots they were Gold Label, just like ElRey labels only on ElRey boots. I know at times they did not used gold label boxes
stetson417
@konacopia who did you talk too because the last time I called they just told me nope. I know they have carried a few lines like the work boots back in my day which they call Zindello’s now.
ace004
hi, i see everyone has replied or commented on these boots. so what is the real answer on the tony lama black label(the era ) 70's ? , 80's boot? when was this boot built if you had to guess?
ace004
is there a style # listed in the inner shaft?
stetson417
@ace004 There isn’t a good picture of label to tell if if is 2nd or 3rd generation. I know the 3 was in 1965, do not know when they switched the gold background with black stitching to black background with gold stitching… Have seen a receipt saying gold label boots with the gold with black stitching but didn’t have the date on the receipt was hand written with style number.
stetson417
Can you post a picture of the label and the size stamping.
