The dog steps into it with his front legs and then you zip it up oner his back. There is also a connection/harness so there are hooks in the back that you can use to hook a leash to the coat. It has a high neck to keep the dog warm . This coat is for a small dog. My dog is 20 pounds, a small beagle, and fits well into this coat/vest. The only problem is that I accidentally bought two of them! Bust: 20.5 Neck 13.4 Back length 14.2 from shoulders down. Keeps dog warm. Very easy to get on and off.
