kinleyf @robfisher570 I just did, however it isn't a varnish, it's treated with a sulfur containing substance that creates a chemical reaction of a natural tarnishing, just like when silver is exposed to air over a period of time. It forms a coating of sulfide, darkening the silver.

robfisher570 @kinleyf look up what is Japanned jewelry, it doesn't have to be a varnish.... Japanned jewelry is one in which a metal is coated in a shiny black or very dark gray coating. "Sometimes" has a black lacquer over it.

kinleyf @robfisher570 yes, I understand. This is not that. It is tarnished Sterling Silver. I just refer to the darker antique brown sulfide as blackened. 🙂
