Quartz is actually the second most abundant mineral on Earth, but the bright blue variation is not very common. Quartz is found in many varieties and colors, including Amethyst, Tiger's Eye and Citrine. Blue Quartz is an opaque to translucent version, with varied amounts of bright blue and blue-gray banding. The blue color in Blue Quartz comes naturally from inclusions of blue minerals in the naturally occurring quartz. These inclusions may include fibrous magnesioriebeckite crocidolite, or tourmaline. The blue color may also be caused by Rayleigh scattering of light at microscopic inclusions inside the mineral. Blue Quartz is naturally found in many locations, including Australia, Brazil, Spain and Italy. It is sometimes called Sapphire Quartz.
