Blue & White Hand Knit Wool Norwegian Sweater by William Schmidt c1950s /XS - S

Rare Find - A NOS 1950s never worn hand knitted sweater from The Oslo Sweater Shop as fresh and lovely as the day it came off the knitting needles. Measurements: Pit to Pit: !7” Length 20” - 3.5” of which is the blue ribbing border at the bottom. Sleeve Length: Underarm to Cuff edge 17” straight , Rolled once 15.5” Neck:13.5” - (relaxed) with stretch of about 3 additional inches. : Note: the necklines on this style were made to hug the neck snugly in order to keep ice cold air out. It is also faced w/a 2nd layer of knitting on the inside which you can see in the inside photo. This is the blue yarn . Skiers often wear a silk or cotton base layer turtle neck under their sweaters & leave the top 2 buttons undone when indoors & this looks fine -find them in ski supply shops. Add a brooch as shown for fashion styling! ( Not Incl.) Colors: Beautiful snowy white main color w/ indigo blue & grey yoke, cuffs cuffs & ribbing. Handmade pewter buttons with a flower motif - shine like silver. Yaarn is tightly knitted & has the wonderful body of old Norwegian wool which was not chemically treated to soften it at the mill when it was spun, ( most modern wools are chemically softened at the mills & doing so breaks them down so they pill easily) These older wools retain their original slightly “stiff” character. This type of yarn also retains some of its natural lanolin from the sheep which makes it warmer & more snow & rain resistant.
