By James Thurber and E.B. White, and illustrated by Thurber
Paperback, 1973. The pages show expected coloring from age and there's a small bit of cosmetic wear to the corners, but otherwise this book is in excellent vintage shape. The spine is solid, the pages are secure, and there are no marks, no tears, no dog-ears.
"First published in 1929, this is a spoof of the many popular books on Freudian sexual theories published in the 1920s. The authors wrote alternate chapters, then compared them for overlap. They invented numerous pseudo-sexual terms, including Diversion Subterfuge, Osculatory Justification, and Schmalhausen Trouble. White and Thurber held little hope of getting interest in the manuscript but Harper's, which had published White's first book of poetry, came out with a small printing of 2,500 copies. The book became a bestseller and launched both authors' careers."
E.B. White went on to write Charlotte's Web and I am a huge fan of Thurber, so I think this book is hilarious. I hope you will too! 🤓
