Rare hardback 1st edition, 1951, by Carl Carmer and illustrated by Stow Wengenroth, from the Rivers of America series. This book is still in print in paperback. In the 1940's and 50's, Carmer was considered one of America's most popular writers.
The Susquehanna, running 44 miles through New York, Pennsylvania and Maryland is the longest river in the eastern US. The book includes the history and folklore of the river and valley - the early native populations of Susquehannock and Iroquois peoples, the key roles it played in the Revolutionary and Civil Wars, and environmental concerns caused by industrialization in the 19th century.
This book originally came from the Lincoln High School Library from Seattle, Washington, and still has it's plastic outer jacket. Some tape has come loose from the front jacket, and the book still has it's loan pocket and card on the inside front cover page. Book shows normal wear on the cover commensurate with it's age. All pages are intact - no writing or tears. Overall good condition; sold as is.
Great for history buffs and 1st edition book collectors.
