This quality antique bronze has immediate appeal: both aesthetically and due to its irresistible subject: a baby learning to crawl. Sculpture by Louise Hibbard Wilder (b 1898) and beautifully cast in 1929 by Brookart, a Brooklyn-based Bronze works foundry (the original casting). Superbly detailed and charmingly rendered. The beauty of this statue (or bookend) has grown over time: the warm, aged patina and vertigris enhances each of its graceful curves. Stunning from every angle!
It sits on a distinctly Art Deco stepped base. Imprinted on back with©️1929, the foundry mark, and the artist’s name. The underside is covered in green felt and bears the original sticker “A Brookart Creation”.
SIZE: Measures 4 1/4” tall by 4 1/4” wide by 3” deep. Weight = ~ 2 1/4 lbs.
CONDITION: It bears the marks of time in what antique dealers call “honest wear”: some dings and scratches that show it’s been used over the last 95 years, but does not attract from its beauty. The felt underside is quite worn. Please see and magnify all photos, and feel free to ask questions.
