The pale blue color of this hat is striking, as well as the overall look. Designed by renowned milliner ADOLFO II, it consists of a round crown with a large bow at one side. The back side of the bow is made of grosgrain. There is a rhinestone trim attached to the top of the bow.
Label: ADOLFO II - New York Paris
In 1963 he launched a bridge line, Adolfo Réalités, and Adolfo II. Some of Adolfo’s hats during the early 1960s were designed to accompany the clothing of Norman Norell.
Adolfo (Sardina) (1933-2021) began his career as a milliner. After an apprenticeship with Balenciaga as a teenager, he moved to New York in 1948 and became an apprentice milliner at Bergdorf Goodman. Not long after opening his own millinery house, Adolfo began to design clothing to complement the hats his models wore, and by the mid 1960s his celebrity clients ranged from the Duchess of Windsor, Gloria Vanderbilt, and Betsy Bloomingdale to Jackie Kennedy Onassis and Nancy Reagan (who wore a red Adolfo dress, currently in the Smithsonian, to her husband’s second inaugural ball).
This is an authentic piece of fashion history! This hat is in wonderful vintage condition & has been lovingly preserved among over 1300 vintage hats we have collected for 40+ years. Feathers, straw, flowers & veils are fragile, given their age. Mannequin not for sale.
