The decor was created for Carstens by Helmut Scholtis in 1963 and became one of the company's most popular designs. The line was produced until 1969.
This is the Wax Resist technique, a natural or synthetic wax emulsion with a low solidification temperature such that the product remains liquid at room temperatures for ease of application. It is used to keep liquids, such as raw liquid glazes, from adhering to undesired areas of ceramic wares for decorative purposes. After the decorative application of wax resist has dried, the pot can be glazed. During the firing process, the glaze will not adhere to the waxed areas, and the residual wax will burn off leaving the decorative design as an unglazed area
The vase measures approximately
10.25 inches tall
5.5" at widest
