Extremely rare, highly desirable, and collectible, gold, enamel, bakelite, mid-century figural, African Tribal celebration necklace by CHARLES F. WORTH.
Detailed and dimensional, this designer necklace measures 17", with a gold plated base, and is a truly well-made, hand-created jewelry piece.
The center bib section measures 7 1/4" x 1 3/8" x 5/8" deep and has 5 African Celebration figurals connected by long gold links.
Featured are two bakelite drums, and decorated enameled tribal drum, mask, and shield. All figurals are set atop individual "V" sections of tiger orange or black savanna foliage.
Secure shepherd's hook clasp.
The figurals remind me of Swahili, Maasai, or Zulu cultural items. Though made prior to the creation of Kwanzaa, this excellent necklace would be a fabulous jewelry addition for that holiday.
Charles F. Worth was known for his distinctive figural jewelry pieces that incorporated bakelite use.
Excellent condition.
In my almost 40 years of jewelry collecting, I have not come across another.
