CHRISTIANE CELLE CALYPSO The Haven Dress From Fall 2008 | Made in USA Silk Dupioni Mini Dress in Dragonfly Size Small This vintage CALYPSO dress is cut from dupioni silk in luscious greens and blues, appropriately named "Dragonfly." It reminds me of the green rice paddy fields in Asia, the talky green parrots, and yes dragonflies. Dupioni silk is a plain weave that is produced using fine thread in the warp and a rough uneven thread in the weft. This uneven thread is sourced from two or more entangled cocoons. This creates a tightly woven fabric that is durable and has a lustrous sheen. Dupioni is environmentally friendly, comfortable, not easily wrinkled and simply luxurious. The Haven's bright green body is flanked by teal and sapphire above and forest green below. Dramatic 3/4 length puff sleeves are cinched midway to give way to a gently pleated flare just above the elbow. The pleated soft scoop neckline is elegant and sophisticated. This has pockets and is travel-friendly. This got a few wrinkles due to, but it doesn't wrinkle easily. Gorgeous for a lawn party, summer wedding or island vacay. NWT. Perfect. Christiane Celle sold Calypso in 2007 to Solera Capital. After 2008, she split from Calypso. This is vintage Christiane Celle from Calypso's founder. She said in a 2010 interview: "All the young people are going into the digital stuff, because they don't care. But the real collector, they will always want the vintage and the real original. That's the value."
