PATTERN: CHINOISERIE PRECIOUS TREASURES
SET OF 2
MADE IN STOKE UPON TRENT, UNITED KINGDOM
Antique transferware plates with hand painted accents was made by W. T. Copeland & Sons in the Canton pattern, also known as the Precious Treasures pattern.
The Aesthetic motif at the center features a scene consisting of a large urn holding peonies placed atop an elaborately carved wooden stand. The right side depicts a decorative object with a tassel which is suspended from an arched metal stand along with a piece of fruit in a dish. Both the stand and bowl are resting on a stone outcropping which meanders down to the lower face of the bowl, providing visual balance. The rim of the piece is finished with a repeating series of floral motifs. The rim is hand painted in a rich rust red color. Additional hand painted accents can be found in the central transferware design.
Chinoiserie type design of Chinese Precious Treasures among them a vase of Peonies on an altar, a hanging piece of jade, a Buddha's hand fruit etc. This is a beautiful transferware pattern and one of the more unique designs seen on English transferware.
It is in overall good antique condition- no chips or cracks. There is some minor fine crazing from age. Otherwise no condition issues.
