Can You Spot The Fake Monies???

I know, its hard- I love Gerda Lynggaard pour Monies and have been collecting for a while now— and I, frankly, hate that all they put on most of their bracelets is a paper tag. I mean, come on. It doesn’t help that some of the designs have become so iconic that they have inspired a legion of knockoffs, both of quality (Iris Apfel, Robert Lee Morris) and not (China, I’m looking at you). Whats the difference? Authentic Monies pieces are heavy, well made, with a luminous chatoyancy that only quality brings. There are certain designs that are constantly copied, but they get the details wrong- stuff like patterning and size. It’s impossible to tell the weight from a photo, so what’s a girl to do?? You can buy new, or authenticate pieces by contacting Monies on their social media, you can learn over time, and you can buy from someone who is going to do you right. There are a few specialized sellers out there (for a treat, look up Santa Fe Dry Goods Store, OMG so beautiful). Ultimately its about what calls to you, not the designer, but if its lux you’re looking for, go to the source!
