This is the second of three trinket dishes by French artist Fabienne Jouvin, each featuring her unique artistic concepts and design.
Describing her creations and creative process, in her own words, she has shared:
From my travels— from Tokyo to The Habana, from the streets of Paris to the sea bed of The Maldives— I bring back sketchbooks, pads of notes, drawings, and collages: Hispanic or contemporan architectures, faces reminding those of Pierre Della Francesca, enigmatic objects not identified . . ..
These spontaneous sketchbooks give rise to unique pieces and editions painting, textiles, porcelain, cloisonné . . .
I like to play with anachronisms and correspondences, to match color patches and precision of the observation, to mix austerity and humor, rigour and spontaneity.
Here you can detect and imagine the process in the finished piece. Of note is her sometimes employed signature irregular shape, where there is a slight overlap in the structure. Shaped like an Asian saucer, this small dish is slightly raised and approximately 3 1/2” in diameter. The motif features multi colored stalks, mustard colored curves with small gray ones below and larger swirled ones on the opposite side, all against a blue gray background. One can imagine this as a rendition of a seaside visit with seaweed and waves or as a furrowed field with stalks.
Alone this is a wonderful trinket dish or accent piece. All three together are, as the photo shows, a striking and intriguing collection.
