Difficult to resist the charm of these two sepia portrait prints from around 1950 (or maybe pre-WWII?). Depicting a little girl and a little boy, they were originally drawn in a classical style, in shades of sepia. On the back of each frame, a golden label bears the name of the model: “Charlotte” and “Peter”. Are these heroes from a famous series of novels for children? Real life models? I don’t know…
Each piece consists of a frame, a print and a thin wooden board that backs the print and is attached to the frame with 4 nails - no professional framing here, though it is nice and sturdy.
Initially in goldish beige tones and quite non-descript, the frames were redone (by me) in glossy distressed black and crackled matte teal blue (or Prussian blue), which makes them look much more Victorian - or Edwardian - and, I believe, much more desirable too.
Excellent vintage condition (the frames were intentionally antiqued).
Dimensions:
“Charlotte”: 7” x 6”
“Peter”: 7” ⅛ x 6”
