It's possible that this Quing dynasty (1644-1911) soapstone brush pot came from the Fujian province near the Shoushan village in northern Fujian. Shoushan village is located near the Shoushan Mountain where stone is mined from. Shoushan stone production reached its peak during the Quing Dynasty.
This brush pot most likely was used to clean scholar brushes, store brushes, and store other miscellaneous items.
This brush pot is a stunning piece of Chinese artistry. It came from the renowned gallery (Potala Palace) several years ago. The exact age of the brush pot is unknown; however, the characteristics of this brush pot indicate that it is an antique piece, probably from the mid to late Chinese Quing Dynasty (1644-1911).
