This french Christofle Gallia Art Deco swan saucière and ladle was originally designed by Danish silversmith Christian Fjerdingstad (1891-1968) circa 1930. Fjerdingstad worked as a design consultant for Christofle from 1924-1939 and his elegant silver plated swan design remains among Maison Christofle's most published and admired offerings. The oval sauce or gravy boat forms the swan’s body, the tail is the handle and the serving spoon / ladle's handle terminates with the head.
The set is in very good condition with minor surface scuffs and shallow scratches. The saucier measures 8 in. L x 4 in. W x 2.25 in. H and the ladle measures 8 in. L x 2 in. W. Both pieces are fully marked. The ladle bears a GALLIA stamp alongside Christofle's knight figure. I belived used between 1935 and 1983 to signify silver plated Gallia metal, an alloy similar to pewter. The sauce boat is stamped GALLIA / FRANCE / Christofle's knight figure.
