“Melon Slice,” was created by Christopher Radko and crafted in Poland in 1991. It represents a simple slice of watermelon. As such, it harkens back to early times when fruit was placed on Christmas trees (often dried or studded with cloves) symbolic of still older ‘Paradise Trees’. This large Christmas tree ornament measures 6 ½ “long and 2” wide. The molding of this ornament is excellent with its textured green/gold ‘skin’ and the saw-toothed cut center whose hollows are painted with a deep ruby red, looking at a distance like melon ‘seeds’. The slice itself is colored with a blend from ‘watermelon’ red to a silvery green, perfectly imitating a slice of the fruit.
This piece comes with its Christopher Radko vintage pre-2000 paper tag and pre- ‘Star’ metal cap as would be expected.
This vintage decoration is made of mouth-blown glass, is hand painted, and is in very good condition.
