Chunky Sterling Sodalite Pendant-ATI Mexico-with 18" Sterling Chain-23g

1) Vintage sodalite inlay pendant in a curved rectangular shape by the ATI jewelry firm in Mexico. Measures 40mm x 20mm, including bail whose interior is 8x8mm. Weighs 16g. Stamped "ATI / 925 / Mexico" the pendant is a sleek contemporary design. It frames a deep blue stone with whitish mottling, whose churning patterns made me think of the sky in van Gogh's beloved painting "The Starry Night." (Thanks, Wikimedia.) The pendant looks shiny and little used. The stone exhibits two fractures that my geology professor taught occur naturally in crystals. One goes across the pendant with the grain, another angles upward. Though they touch the surface, they appear to have been polished upon production, thus pre-existing. The setting has no chips that would indicate the stone had been damaged from a blow. Other natural striations in the mineral are visible across the top--this is what makes them beautiful. Sleek but soulful chunk of nature for your neck. 2) I added an 18 inch, 4mm sterling silver chain in a doubled link pattern. It is shiny but with texture and heft to balance the chunky pendant, which I like best on a shorter chain like this. Stamped "Italy 925," "925" and "HCT" for the maker, it weighs 7.5 grams. This estate piece is in very good condition. The double-link design's departure from the usual adds interest.
