From Comme des Garçon’s collectible 80s-90s line Robe de Chambre, comes this wild mesh maxi dress - sheer & structured except for a smattering of cut out cartoonish flower (?) appliqués. Add a Peter Pan collar, a pleated full skirt, in this teal-y green, and you’re not alone in being fascinated, yet confused by this gown . But when you look back at Comme des Garçon in the mid 90s, it kind of makes sense . This was the era that Rei Kawalubo gave us ‘Synergy’, Comme’s groundbreaking collection that clashed everything, notably prints with textiles,, deconstructing punk sensibilities and giving us these structural yet easy shape. This dress would have been m born from that mindset. Theatrics aside, the fact that the entire interior was bond stitched (an old school precise technique to preserve the shape of a garments) is very impressive.
