It is not much of an exaggeration to call this dark brown enamel tea kettle a mid century modern icon. It is one of the two objects that put Michael Lax on the map in the 1960s. Two of his designs are part of the Museum of Modern Art's permanent collection (nbd). I personally love this tea kettle because it marries form with function and has a lovely Scandinavian slash mid century modern flair.
The kettle is coated in a glossy dark brown enamel. It has bamboo handles. The bottom is marked "Copco Michael Lax Design #119 Spain"
The tea kettle has a capacity of two quarts. It measures:
- 4" tall with handle down and about 7" with handle up
- 9" long including spout
- 7" diameter
I am not exactly sure when this specific kettle was produced, but it would have been some time between 1960 and the 1980s, when this design was retired by copco.
It is in good condition overall, but it has definitely been used and that shows. There is also some rusting on the inside of the kettle (on the bottom and near the spout), which is shown in the photos.
