Francis Wheatley (1747-1801) was an English painter and printmaker known for his series "The Cries of London," created between 1792 and 1797. This collection of engravings depicts the street vendors of London, capturing the character and vibrancy of urban life in the late 18th century. Each print shows a vendor plying their trade, accompanied by the distinctive cries they would shout to attract customers.
This is plate number 8 in the series "Round & Sound, Five Pence a Pound, Duke Cherries". Features a cherry / fruit seller. Printed on laid paper. Engraving in set in a deep, classic walnut Victorian shadow box frame with hand carved details. The frame has the wood backboard still intact.
