DASHING DESIGNER LILLY DACHE VINTAGE NATURAL STRAW TOQUE WITH OSTRICH FEATHER

This really beautiful natural straw vintage toque consists of a rounded crown that has a fold at the top back, creating a unique shape.There is a short, rounded brim at the front only. Over the crown there is a beautiful white ostrich feather. A toque is small cap or bonnet having a narrow brim or no brim at all. Toques were popular from the 13th to the 16th century in Europe, especially France. The mode was revived in the 1930s. LABEL: LILLY DACHE - Paris New York 78 East 56th. She started her career in a small bonnet shop, advanced to being a sales lady at Macy's department store, and from there started her own hat business. She was at the peak of her business career in the 1930s and 1940s. She was one of the most famous American milliners. This is an authentic piece of fashion history! This hat is in wonderful vintage condition & has been lovingly preserved among over 1300 vintage hats we have collected for 40+ years. Feathers, straw, flowers & veils are fragile, given their age.
