Is a martini glass made without glass still a martini glass? Designer David Rasmussen proposes this paradox with his intoxicating wooden drinkware. He crafts the bowl and the base from black walnut with a handsome grain that echoes the ripples in your drink. Aside from being beautiful wood is also a better insulator than glass and helps to keep cocktails chilled longer. The wooden pieces are joined by either lightweight powder-coated aluminum or plexiglass stems. Rasmussen carefully sands his wood to be velvety smooth and then finishes it with an FDA-approved sealant keeping the wood from interfering with the beverage's flavors.
