History: As members of the USA in 1967, the Cougars were represented by Northern Ireland’s Glentoran team, which was based in east Belfast. Detroit joined the new NASL in 1968 when the two original leagues merged. The Cougars played home matches at Tiger Stadium, home of the baseball Tigers and NFL Lions. Detroit was one of the teams who folded after the 1968 NASL season. The Motor City received a new NASL franchise – the Express – ten years later.
